Message in a Bottle

This is a national Lions project to provide a simple way for the emergency services to find out information about a collapsed individual they may find in a call-out.

Lions Club can provide the bottle kits; already hundreds of thousands have been provided across the country and tens of thousands have been provided in the Guildford area.

What’s in the bottle?
A form you fill in with your name and basic details, any medicines you may take, information about any allergies, and relatives contact details. There are also two stickers.

What do I have to do?
Fill in the form, put it in the bottle. Put the bottle in your fridge. Put one green sticker on your fridge door and the other green sticker on the INSIDE of your house front door.

Who knows about it?
All Emergency Services are aware of the Message in a Bottle scheme, and will locate the bottle and the information inside and pass it on to a doctor or hospital personnel in an emergency. The scheme has saved many lives as faced with an unconscious individual the emergency services can quickly locate the bottle and find out the patient’s history and any medical issues, and respond accordingly.

Where can I get one?
You can usually get one from your GP’s surgery, chemists, council offices, police station, local post office, social services and local help groups.
