Lions Clubs across the world have always been associated with the blind. Helen Keller, a noted blind/deaf/dumb woman described the Lions as the ‘Knights of the Blind’.
In Guildford there is a thriving blind bowling club amongst the blind and visually sighted community living locally and they meet at Wey Valley Bowls Club in Stoke Park. In the summer they play lawn bowls in the open air, and in winter they play their bowls on the indoor rinks.
For many years members of Guildford Lions Club have been providing transport for the players to and from the bowls club and are often challenged to a match – usually losing!
