Humanitarian appeal

August 2021   Having put out an appeal on social media requesting help for a father and daughter in dire circumstances being housed in Chilworth, we received an amazing 53 offers of help and support!
The property they have moved into is an unfurnished two bedroom flat.
Because they were moving in last Tuesday – we Guildford Lions purchased the two beds, which came from the British Heart Foundation at Woking.  Guildford Lions also funded a new toaster and electric kettle and we also gave them a Sainsbury’s Voucher for £40.
The Lions have also donated a laptop from our earlier laptop appeal, because the 10 year old girl will need one when she starts school in September.
Examples of donations include a small table and two chairs, coffee table, small armchair and a mirror from a Guildford lady who is clearing a flat;  a microwave from a donor in Farnborough; bedroom furniture from Farnham, and towels and bedding from various people.  Due to lack of space we have had to turn downn some offers including large sofas and dining tables and chairs.
The flat has a fitted kitchen, which is now full of donated pots, pans and utensils.
A lady living in Hindhead who experienced similar problems as a young child donated furniture, a bag of clothes, games and toys for the little girl. Also, along with a friend, she  provided the father with a collection of tin food and all the cleaning items for the kitchen and bathroom, and even new electric tooth brushes and tooth paste!  A £50 Tesco Voucher for the family has also been pledged.
In addition people have offered financial donations.
This is a heartwarming example of the kindness and generosity of the people in our area.  Thank you all.
