Guildford Action

Dear Barry and the Guildford Lions
I am writing to say a huge thank you for your incredible donation of £1250 to Guildford Action to fund emergency supplies for the Day Service and Guildford Action Family Service (GAF) and to enable us to hold Christmas parties for users of both services.
60% of the charity’s income is from charitable funding and your donation is invaluable to enable us to support the homeless and vulnerable families in Guildford and surrounding areas. We are seeing more and more individuals and families who need our services but our statutory funding is being reduced so your donation will make a big difference, particularly at this time of year which is hard for many of our users.
We are also grateful for your help with organising the Sleep Out event on Friday 29th November, keeping the participants safe whilst they slept out overnight in the car park of the Guildford Spectrum. This is our main fundraiser of the year, and you and your volunteers played a vital role – thank you so much.
To give the Lions an indication of the work of the charity, in 2018 the GAF supported 509 individuals in the family support project and provided 3,054 interventions. The Day Service supported 580 clients and had over 8000 visits. Around 70% of the people we support are experiencing homelessness, risk of homelessness or other housing needs. In the last month we have started to provide a severe weather service to provide emergency shelter for rough sleepers at the hall through the particularly cold days and nights. This is being well received as the users feel safe and comfortable in the environment and in the company of our staff and volunteers.
We will be sending out a regular newsletter giving updates on our work and the impact on our clients. If you do not wish to receive this, please let me know; otherwise we will add your email to the circulation list.
Again, thank you very much for your vital contribution to help us improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in Guildford.

Kind regards
Rachel Hinxman
